If you find yourself squinting at your Dell monitor at work, if the brightness is giving you a headache or if the display just doesn't look quite right, you can use the monitor’s on-board menu to adjust settings such as contrast and brightness to best suit your needs, or, if necessary, revert to the factory presets. The settings menu is essentially the same on all Dell models, and you can use the menu as long as the monitor is connected to a computer.

1.

Press the “Menu” or “Menu/Select” button on the monitor’s bezel (the frame around the monitor). Usually, the button is located in the vicinity of the monitor's power button. A menu of options should appear on the screen. Hereafter, you can use the “Menu” or “Menu/Select” button (or the '+' and '-' on some Dell models) to make menu selections.

2.

Use either the “+” and “-“ keys or the arrow keys on the monitor bezel to navigate to the “Auto Adjust” option and press the “Menu” or “Menu/Select” button choose that option. If Auto Adjust isn’t in the main menu, select the “Image Settings” submenu. Auto Adjust optimizes the display and corrects various brightness and contrast issues. You may not need to perform any further adjustments afterward.

3.

Select the “Positioning” option if part of the screen is cut off. Use the “+” and “-“ or arrow keys to move the image vertically or horizontally, and press the “Menu” or “Menu/Select” button to save the changes.

4.

Select “Color Settings” if you want to manually adjust the red, green and blue color saturation. Some models offer 9300K and 6500K presets, which provide a more pronounced blue and red tint to the display respectively.

5.

Choose “OSD Settings,” or on-screen display settings, if you want to “stretch” the display either vertically or horizontally. If the image on your screen seems shrunken with a black boarder around it, this setting will enable you to fix that issue. Again, use the arrow keys or the “+” and “-“ keys to adjust, and press the “Menu” or “Menu/Select” button to confirm.

6.

Select “Factory Reset” if you want to undo all changes and return the monitor to the preset factory settings.
